In the United States there has been a story with a happy ending that sees two newlyweds as protagonists … and an elevator. In fact, in Charlotte, North Carolina, two people who had been married for a few minutes were trapped in an elevator for two and a half hours.
Specifically, let’s talk about the story of Victoria and Panav Jhac who had this mishap (in the “company” of four other family members) just as they were heading to the wedding reception which was held on the 16th floor of the prestigious Grand Bohemian Hotel located in the city center.
The happy ending was guaranteed by the intervention of the Charlotte firefighters who responded to the emergency signal initially launched from the elevator. After following standard elevator call troubleshooting procedures, the firefighters assumed a rope rescue would be required. “We usually prefer to work with elevator operators in these situations, but as a last resort, we have the skills and equipment to rescue!” said Steven Pritchard, Charlotte Fire’s captain for Rescue 11. “It will be one we will always remember. I will tell my children that your mother was so beautiful that the firefighters had to come,” the newlywed Panav Jha said with irony. The firefighters were finally invited to the reception but obviously had to decline, given their constant commitment in the area.
