Often the initiatives of individuals are destined to become historic and truly pioneering even in the elevator world.
In particular, in the sector, the news published by The Press Democrat, an American newspaper that reports the curious story of Logan Ober, has become quite viral. This gentleman, by virtue of his innate passion for elevators, after learning that California, unlike other states, did not have a database of its elevators, developed his own. Always passionate about vertical mobility, Mr. Ober set out and traveled, visiting and surveying the cities of San Francisco and Santa Rosa to record videos and generally catalog elevators. This gentleman in a short time has created an online database that lets users search by city, conveyance number, speed, capacity, machine type and install date, among other information.
This enormous amount of data has turned into an updated site that could potentially become a real census of US elevators…
Ober hopes in the future that the United States government may be interested in his site for research and study purposes. A representative from the California Department of Industrial Relations said that the state has focused resources on its elevator inspection program instead of creating and maintaining a public database. For now, Ober will continue to request updated data from the state (at a cost) every six months and keep optimizing the site, which he wants to offer indefinitely as a resource to the community.
Good luck Logan, elevator enthusiast!
